MIF Museum in Muravera and Nuar Gallery are pleased to announce Ak2deru's solo exhibition ‘Domus Ardet’. The exhibition will be open from 1 August to 15 October 2024 and promises to offer a unique immersive experience that explores the depths of human essence. The exhibition transports visitors into a symbolic, immersive world, where the sense of rituality is explored through the elements of fire, sign-matter and voice.
As critic Matteo Di Cintio stated, ‘Ak2deru stages a play of forces and symbolic references that reveal the ancestry of a ritual.’ In the Sardinian artist's work, the sense of rituality is folded into the encounter between human beings and their ancient remains.
Fire - the central element of the exhibition and symbol of the transformation of matter in its cycles of continuous creation and destruction, which has always been at the heart of the artist's research - is explored in its composition of ash, charcoal and combustion.
Combustion characterises the body of the works on display, created on various materials: paper, canvas, cork, wood, leather and recycled hides, in contrasting variations ranging from macro to micro.
The centrepiece of the exhibition is the video art work “Domus ardet” - from which the exhibition takes its title. The immersive work, accompanied by the sound of two microtonal choirs, presents images of volcanic explosions and lava flows that deform to create animal-like figures.
The sound dimension of Ak2deru's work, trained in musical composition with Gian Paolo Chiti and Alvin Curran, is also represented by the audio tracks Codex 121101 and Codex 229002. These expanded sounds, created through unconventional vocal techniques, create a primitive madrigal of voices, an ancestral counterpoint that refers to a primal rituality, expanding the exhibition space through immanent vibrations.
