overcoming the limits imposed by matter and identity

Bio

Luigi Di Fabio (Termoli, 1998) develops a body of work centered on weightlessness as both a poetic and existential category. His practice investigates the human condition through images of suspension, in which the body—often self-portrayed—withdraws from gravity and inhabits a space devoid of stable coordinates. The figure becomes threshold and tension: a fragile presence oscillating between permanence and dissolution. Educated at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera and the Università Cattolica in Milan, the artist constructs an essential visual language spanning painting, photography, and video. His compositions, reduced to a few structural elements, eliminate environmental references in order to focus attention on the minimal gesture and the precariousness of balance. In his poetics, weightlessness is not an act of escape but a critical gesture: a process of subtraction aimed at overcoming the limits imposed by matter and identity, opening a space for transformation. Through raw surfaces, veils, and visual stratifications, Di Fabio creates rarefied environments in which reality becomes unstable and the body emerges as a presence in continuous redefinition—suspended between the desire for elevation and the awareness of its own finitude.

In 2024 he was awarded First Prize at the 18th edition of the Premio Morlotti–Imbersago. In 2025 he was a finalist at the Combat Prize and exhibited at the Museo Civico Giovanni Fattori in Livorno. In 2026 he is among the finalists of the Premio Mestre di Pittura, with an exhibition at Fondazione MUVE in Mestre. In Monza he is represented by ARCgallery, where in 2025 he presented his first solo exhibition, *Epifania di leggerezza*, curated by Antonella Giovenzana. In 2026 he will hold a solo exhibition at LeoGalleries (Monza), curated by Simona Bartolena and Giorgio Seveso, and participate in the group exhibition *Corpo a Corpo* at the Museo della Permanente in Milan. In 2027 his solo exhibition *Humana Conditio* will be hosted at the Castello Svevo in Termoli. Among his group exhibitions are Silvy Bassanese Arte Contemporanea (Biella, 2026) and Nuar Gallery (Rapallo, 2026). His works have been published in institutional catalogues, including the *Annuario d’Arte Contemporanea Italia–Cina* (2024; 2025), the *Combat Prize* catalogue (Sillabe Editori), the *Premio Morlotti* catalogue (Winner of the 18th edition), and the journal *Arbiter* (no. 260, June 2025), for which he also created the cover image.
