Bio
Diego Cerero Molina was born in 1987, in Valverde del Camino, a small town near Huelva, Spain. He graduates from the Academy of Fine Art at the University of Seville, and earns a Master in Art: Idea and Production.
Maestro of the most foolish facial expressions and insightful observer, Molina focuses assiduously on portraits. Any person, animal or object that gets captured by his brush comes out in the open, gets exposed. Living characters with the ability to come alive, peer, wink and observe us with their multiple personalities, leaving us no choice but to look back.
Raised eyebrows, wide open mouths and pricked up ears. Molina’s impeccable technique is the spark that enables the stunning reproduction of his expressive details, reminding us of the world famous bronzes “Character heads” of Franz Xaver Messerschmidt. A skillful use of spatulas and brushes, a masterful use of light and shadow, allow the artist to express the contradictory stirrings of human emotions without ever falling into a mere technical exercise.
Funny and profane, his characters are often depicted in paradoxical situations, which can easily bring a smile on one’s face, whilst giving the artist a great scene to discuss modern society with intelligence. One example is the Figuras, where perspectives, features, expressions, and even the geometries of the settings are as tense, pulled, and exaggerated as the lines of a theater play.
Despite his young age, Diego Cerero Molina has appeared across Europe’s most prestigious art fair, other than having exhibited his art multiple times within his native Spain, but also in Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, Lebanon and Brasil.
