Bio

Davide Robaldo was born in Turin in 1994 and studied at the Polytechnic University of Turin, where he graduated in Communication and Design in 2016. Beside his studies, he began his own artistic practice, initially focused on painting, which he developed alongside professional experience in editorial graphics, collaborating with a magazine active in Turin, Milan, and Genoa. Over the years, he has gradually expanded his scope, combining artistic research with curation and exhibition design, collaborating with the Azimut association on the organization of exhibitions dedicated to emerging art.

His career has been characterized from the outset by an interdisciplinary approach, in which painting engages with relational, installation, and research practices. In 2022, he co-founded the Ragno collective, born from the need to explore collaborative and participatory dimensions of artistic practice through residencies, workshops, and shared experiences. In 2023, he founded Studio Abra, a platform dedicated to designing artistic residencies and events, consolidating an approach that intertwines artistic practice, planning, and the construction of contexts.

The heart of his research is a reflection on relationships as a generative device for experience. His work takes shape from exploratory processes, often situated, that develop through practices of traversing, observing, and interacting with the environment. In this context, play emerges as a pivotal element: not only as a playful dimension, but as a cognitive and ritual tool, capable of activating relational dynamics and redefining the relationship between individuals and space.

In recent years, he has focused his research on the concept of "post-natural," intended as the tension between nature and cultural construction within highly anthropized contexts. Marginal or ambiguous places—such as riverbanks, residual spaces, or territories undergoing transformation—become privileged settings for intervention, where the artist grafts imaginative and participatory devices. In these situations, a dialectic between poetic dimension and reality is generated, often marked by elements of precariousness and dissonance.

Painting, despite being permeated by these methodological openings, remains a constant point of return for the artist: a space for sedimentation and reworking of experience. Works like the "Nuvole pure" series visually translate this tension, connecting playful imagery with cruder visions of the contemporary landscape, in a balance suspended between lightness and restlessness. At the same time, projects like "Giocare col fuoco" or "Muovere l'ombra di una casa" expand the practice towards participatory and narrative dimensions, in which memory, ritual, and collective action intertwine.

Robaldo's entire work thus emerges as an open system, in which design, experience, and visual restitution coexist in a hybrid form. Through a language that combines a design approach and imaginative tension, his research explores possibilities for relating and reactivating reality, maintaining its underlying theme and critical device in play.
