Bio
Catia Simões was born in Palmeira das Missões, Brazil, in 1989. After obtaining a degree in Law in 2015, she embarked on an artistic journey that led her to discover photography as a limitless channel of expression, the purest means to communicate her essence without the need for words.
Her early self-portraits are the result of a difficult period in her life, during which she had to battle anxiety and frequent panic attacks. In such dark moments, photography became an anchor of salvation, a way to extend her inner world - made visible through the lens of the camera - and to be able to look at herself through it.
Her photographic practice includes the use of both digital and analog cameras, often portraying people close to her, individuals who share her emotions and artistic journey. The search for natural light and the exploration of shadows give her works a melancholic and nostalgic atmosphere, reflecting the artist's inner turmoil.
In her work, nature and natural elements are often protagonists, serving as symbols of life and death, beauty and fragility. Withered flowers, solitary landscapes, and timeless human bodies merge into a visual narrative that invites the viewer to explore the boundaries of their own interiority.
Currently residing in Turin, Catia's works have found space in various group exhibitions both in Italy and abroad, and have been featured in prominent magazines such as the renowned Vogue.
